Privacy policy

Cinevell is a place to keep track of what you watch. This explains what we keep, why, who can see it and the choices you have.
What we keep
Your account: your email address and a password, held by our sign-in provider (Clerk). Cinevell itself never sees your password.
Your library: the shows and movies you add, what you watched and when, your ratings, notes, lists and favourites, and your settings.
Your profile, if you set one up: username, display name, bio, photo and banner choice.
Friends: who you follow and who follows you, follow requests, blocks, nicknames you give people (only you see them) and messages you send.
Feedback and reports you send us.
Why we keep it
To run Cinevell for you: show your library on every device, work out what’s next, show your stats and let you share with friends. We don’t use your data for anything else.
What we never do
We don’t sell your data, show ads, or track you on other websites or apps. Your messages and notes are never used for marketing.
Who can see what
Your library, notes and ratings are private unless you choose to share. Friends who follow you can see your profile and, if “Share my library” is on, your stats, shelves, journal and lists. A private account only shows these to people you approve.
Notes and reviews are never shared. Nicknames you give people are visible only to you.
Messages go only between friends who follow each other. They are stored on our servers so they reach every device, and are not end-to-end encrypted.
Blocking someone hides you from each other completely.
If you add Cinevell to your calendar (Settings → Add to calendar), anyone who has that private link can see your upcoming episodes and releases, nothing else. You can replace the link at any time.
Who helps run Cinevell
Cloudflare hosts the app and stores your data. Clerk handles sign-in and sends sign-in emails.
TMDB supplies show and movie information and images; JustWatch (through TMDB) supplies where-to-watch information. Your searches reach them without your name or email.
Each of them handles data only to provide their service to us.
Error reports
If the app breaks, it sends us the screen, the error, the app version and your kind of device, never your library or messages. Reports are deleted after 30 days.
On your device
Cinevell keeps a copy of your library on your device so it opens fast and works offline, plus a few preferences such as your language and layout. We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.
Your choices
Download everything at any time: Settings → Download my data.
Change what friends see, go private, or stop sharing your library at any time in Edit profile.
Delete your account in Settings → Delete my account. You’re signed out everywhere and hidden at once; if you sign in within 7 days you can keep your account. After 7 days everything is erased. Our automatic safety copies of the database expire within 30 days after that.
Children
Cinevell is not meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly keep data about them. If you think a child has an account, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we’ll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
